Star Wars Jedi: Survivor having New Journey Plus at launch gives it better longevity around its release. That is why Star Wars Jedi: Survivor may have given itself a big boon when it comes to its own release. There may be hardly any time to finish a game to its desired completion on a single playthrough, let alone doubling that with a second playthrough. Loads of games come out all the time, and especially lately it seems as if they are releasing back-to-back with titles such as Horizon Forbidden West’s Burning Shores DLC, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Redfall, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom all launching within weeks of one another. Having to start again from scratch may not have been an issue for fans who adore its narrative and gameplay, especially to play around with God of War Ragnarok’s build system, but many players might not have that much time to spend with one game exclusively. Therefore, not having New Game Plus at launch was not necessarily a detriment to how well God of War Ragnarok would do in terms of sales, but it likely impacted how much time fans would spend with it once they rolled credits or achieved 100 percent completion. God of War Ragnarok is an enormous game with a lot to complete if players want to, which makes the idea of having to start fresh on a new playthrough discouraging for some fans.

Instead, it dropped alongside a substantial update almost six months later that introduced combat challenges through meditative training, as well as a red lightsaber crystal and the Inquisitor armor Cal is seen wearing during his premonition on Bogano. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order had its own New Journey Plus, though it did not feature that game mode on release.
Even if repeating these treks may not be highly desired, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s New Journey Plus is a welcome addition at launch. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s level design is remembered for how much backtracking there was in claustrophobic maps without fast travel, and even though Star Wars Jedi: Survivor features fast travel, it is still a long trek to-and-from desired meditation points. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a huge game compared to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which can mostly be attributed to how much more the sequel’s planets have to offer in terms of exploration and content.
